"Positive Provocation" as Intervention Tool

When it comes to the development of leadership behavior and attitude, qualitative feedback from others is one of the most important factors. However,  if the participant is not actively involved, the feedback can often go unnoticed due to a lack of self-reflection. In a professional training setting participants can receive structured feedback while being in the right state of mind.

We at the Business Performance Academy have developed a training method to motivate leaders and managers to work on their leadership competences and behavior. We refer to this method as "positive provocation".
With this method we motivate leaders to talk and act. Our trainers challenge the participants to not only talk about their achievements but also about what they could and should improve. Before you can begin to manage others you must become disciplined in managing yourself.

No Comfort, but also No Panic

"Tough on the contents, gentle on the relationship".  Behavioral training has to be clear, concrete and perceived as a challenge by the participant. In leadership development we make a distinction between three (emotional) zones : the "comfort zone", the "stretch zone" and the "panic zone". Through positive provocation we encourage participants to move into the stretch zone, without getting into the panic zone.

Using this stretch zone in combination with other training processes, the desired leadership attitude can be achieved. This provocative way of training makes it easier for the trainer/coach to identify subconscious behavior and give direct feedback to the participant.
